Mrs Carla Barton

Carla has been a resident of Gundagai since 2014, having grown up on the NSW Central Coast. Prior to moving to Gundagai with her husband Will and becoming a mother of twin boys Lachlan and Harrison, Carla worked in real estate. Carla's roles have included licensee in charge, executive assistant & project management at CBRE in Sydney and her current role as the Residential Property Manager at GMP.

Earlier this year Carla setup a social media page called Country Collective which showcases "all things beautiful worth sharing... businesses, places, interiors and food". Since moving to Gundagai, Carla has developed a desire to see the Gundagai community grow and thrive and is excited by the opportunity to contribute via the IAG.

Mr Paul Braybrooks OAM

Elected to Cootamundra Shire Council in 1991, Paul was Mayor of Cootamundra Shire Council for 15 years from September 1996 to September 2011. A pharmacist by profession, Paul has owned and operated a retail pharmacy in Cootamundra since October 1983 and is an active member of several community based committees in Cootamundra. Paul has received the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship for his community involvement. An active participant in local government issues, Paul was until recently a member of the board and the Treasurer of LGNSW".

In 1998 Paul was elected Chairman of REROC, a consortium of Eastern Riverina Councils. Paul was awarded an OAM on Australia Day 2010.

Paul decided not to run for re-election to the position of Mayor in September 2011.

Mr Rod Chalmers

Rod was elected to Council in September 2012.

He has been a resident of the Cootamundra Shire for over 20 years, and until retirement two years ago was General Manager for a group of rural properties for the previous 18 years. He is married Lynn and has two married daughters, Emma who lives in Cootamundra and Samantha who lives in Canberra.

On the former Cootamundra Shire Council Rod was a member of the Corporate Services Committee, Noxious Weeds Committee and is Chairman of the Saleyards Committee.

Mr David Graham

David Graham was elected to the former Gundagai Shire Council in September 2004.  He was elected Deputy Mayor in September 2011.

Mr Doug Phillips

Mr Doug Phillips held the position of Councillor with the former Cootamundra Shire Council since 2004. 

Mr Phillips held the position of Mayor from 2011 to 2013 and Deputy Mayor in 2010.

Doug is also a registered Justice of the Peace.

Doug along with his wife Julie-Anne operates a joinery business in Cootamundra employing local people and in conjunction with their son and daughter in law are partners in a local catering business.  Doug is currently enrolled in a teaching degree through Charles Sturt University.  A valued member of Cootamundra Apex for many years, Doug has been involved in both the Cootamundra Strikers Soccer Club and Cootamundra Junior Soccer Club.  Doug and his wife Julie-Anne grew up in Cootamundra and after spending some time living away, moved back to Cootamundra in 1994 with their 3 children.  All of their children reside and work in Cootamundra.

Mr Peter Baley OAM

Peter Batey was elected as Councillor for the former Gundagai Shire Council in a by-election (due to death of Cr R Smith) in 2010.

Mr Stephen Doidge

Mr Doidge was elected to the position of Councillor with the former Cootamundra Shire Council on 8 September 2012.

Born in Cootamundra, Mr Doidge has lived in Cootamundra for 47 years.  He attended EA Southee School and Cootamundra High School.

A 5th generation Printer, Mr Doidge , together with wife Anne, operates the 131 years family owned Atlas Printing Works in Cootamundra.  They also operate a printing works in Young.

Mr Doidge and his wife Anne have two sons, one is currently undertaking an  electrical apprenticeship whilst  the other son is still at school.

Mrs Mary Donnelly

Mrs Donnelly held the position of Councillor with the former Cootamundra Shire Council for three terms. 

Mrs Donnelly went to school in Randwick where she lived for 25 years.  Worked for five years in the Transport Department in Macquarie Street. Worked as secretary to Sir Lionel Hooke, Chairman Channel 10 and AWA.

Married and lived in Newcastle, for five years, where her three girls were born.

Moved to Cootamundra with my husband's job, as a Pay Master in the Railway in 1977. Worked as secretary to a Federal and State Members of Parliament for 11 years and 10 years at the Sacred Heart Presbytery.

During my time in Cootamundra I have been involved in the following organisations at an executive level: Cootamundra Netball Association, Parents & Friends Association, Mobile Mammography, Radiotherapy Fundraising for Wagga, Evening CWA & State level Social Issue Committee, Secretary Parish Pastoral Council, Evening VIEW, Cootamundra Council

Volunteer for: St Vincent de Paul Society, Visit the Nursing Home for the Catholic Church for 20 years, Meals on Wheels, The Retirement Village occasionally.

Mr Michael Kingwill

Michael Kingwill was born at Cootamundra and educated at Adjungbilly and Goulburn. After high school he completed his trade in Saw Doctor/Saw Maker at Tumut and Wool Classing at Cootamundra TAFE. 

Michael spent 13 years on the former Gundagai Shire Council between 1995 and 2008. 

Currently he farms (sheep, cattle and cropping) at Adjungbilly with his partner and 3 teenage children, and is a Group Captain with the RFS.

Adjungbilly is the eastern boundary of Gundagai Shire which joins Yass Valley and Snowy Valleys (Tumut) shires.

Mr Ron Magnone

Ron Magnone is a former Gundagai Shire Council Councillor who served from September 2012 to May 2016.

Ron's experience has spanned across many business, with a long period spent in the construction industry both in Sydney and Brisbane. Ron was responsible as a site manager on many large building projects including a number of major shopping centres, Public Buildings, the head office of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia on the Olympic precinct site at Homebush and the Chinese Consulate for The People's Republic of China in Sydney to name a few.

Ron moved to Gundagai in 2005 after purchasing the Gundagai Tourist Park from Council which he owned and managed until he sold it recently. Ron also had other business interests in Gundagai including a local cafe in Sheridan St.

Ron is passionate about the development of the Gundagai community for future generations and is particularity concerned with the efficient and effective expenditure of ratepayers money and ensuring the community gets the services and facilities it deserves in a timely and appropriate fashion.

Penny Nicholson

My name is Penny Nicholson and I am 44 years of age, was born in Gundagai, moved away for work and returned to marry and raise a family.  

My husband and I have owned the Gundagai Newsagency for almost 15 years, we have two children aged 15 and 12. 

Local Government has always been an interest for me but the timing was never right, now I have been given an opportunity to be a local contact person for the residents of our Shire. 

As Gundagai is our home, I understand the importance for our Shire to grow and prosper together.  I am able to relate to the concerns of the business and residential communities and will raise any concerns and ideas on behalf of the residents. 

I love to be with my family, entertaining, retail therapy and of course.....great coffee and laughs with my friends!

Mr Dennis Palmer

Dennis was elected as a Councillor for the former Cootamundra Shire Council in 1999 and elected as Deputy Mayor in September 2013.  He was Chairman of Engineering Services committee and was also Councils delegate on the Board of Goldenfields Water County Council.

He and his wife Frances own and operate a mixed farming enterprise and have two children, Michael and Emma.  Dennis completed his automotive trade in Cootamundra before commencing his own motor vehicle repair business in 1980.  They now own and operate a franchised dealership in town.

Dennis is an active member of Lions Club, having held various executive positions over the past fifteen years.

He has a positive vision for our future and is focused on the growth and prosperity of the community for the benefit of all residents in the Shire.

Dennis is also registered as a Justice of the Peace.

Mr Jim Slattery

Mr Jim Slattery held the postion of Councillor with the former Cootamundra Shire Council since 1999 and was elected as Mayor on 16 September 2013.  Mr Slattery previously held the position of Deputy Mayor in 2012.

Jim was a member of the Corporate Services, Engineering Services, Traffic Advisory Committees of Council, as well as being the alternate member of the Saleyards Committee.

Jim moved to Cootamundra in 1960 as a Fireman with the Railways, his intention was to stay for three months, but after 53 years he is still here.

Jim previously operated a cleaning business in and around Cootamundra. 

Jim has been a Justice of the Peace for more than 40 years.

Jim enjoyed his years on Council and is looking forward to the future of the new Council.

He represented Council on the Cootamundra Arts Trust Fund Committee,  the South West Slopes Regional Waste Management Group and as an alternate on the South West Slopes Zone Bush Fire Management Committee.

Mr Craig Stewart

Mr Craig Stewart, or Stewie as he is better known, was elected to the former Cootamundra Shire Council in September 2012.  Born and bred in Wagga, Stewie came to Cootamundra in 2004 to care for his parents.

Stewie's two brothers and parents were born in Cootamundra.  His grandparents owned a farm "Rathden" just out of Cootamundra, between Jugiong and Harden.

On regular visits to Cootamundra and districts he saw it grow and prosper.  His strong ties to Cootamundra brought him back to settle.

Stewie's grandmother was the twin sister of politician William "Billy" Sheahan who served in parliament until 1973.  From 1950 as a member for Burrinjuck.  Sheahan held portfolios of Attorney-General of NSW, Minister of Transport and Minister of Health between 1950 and 1965.

Stewie was a member of Council's Engineering Services Committee, Cootamundra Development Corporation and the Cootamundra Heritage Centre.  Stewie is also on the Board of Directors at the Cootamundra Country Club.

Stewie has a daughter, Rene'e Pauline who resides at Wagga.

Mrs Rosalind Wight

Mrs Wight served on the Corporate Services Committee, the Saleyards Committee, Chairman of the Noxious Weeds Committee, and a delegate to the Riverina Regional Library and South West Slopes Zone Bushfire Committee during her time as an elected Councillor of the former Cootamundra Shire Council.

Mrs Wight was for many years, a picture and textile conservator, working in the main collecting institutions like the Australian War Memorial and the National Library of Australia.

Mrs Wight lives on a farm near Cootamundra with her husband Andrew. We have three enchanting daughters, a wonderful son and many delightful grandchildren.
