Gundagai Parks
Gundagai has five recreational parks and four sporting ovals.
RECREATIONAL PARKS
Carberry Park – is situated on the western end of Sheridan St., close to shops and the town center. It lies if front of the Mirrabooka building and town Library. This park is the venue for many of Gundagai’s festivals and events such as Australia Day Awards and Carols by Candlelight. The park plays a major part in the annual festivals of Turning Wave and Dog on the Tuckerbox. It provides large shady areas with bench type table and seats. Toilets facilities are behind the Tourist Information Centre which is located next to the park. Carberry Park has recently received a $100,000 facelift including new pathways and garden beds.
Yarri Park - Situated on Landon St, and bordered by poplar and elm trees, the park follows the bank of Morleys Creek. Yarri Park is a popular spot for picnickers and family or social groups. It has free electric BBQs, roofed tables and seats, toilet facilities and a modern playground area for children.
Friendship Park – is to the north of Gundagai and stretches between William St and O’Hagan St. A wide pathway meanders through the park linking the two streets. There is a fenced off sandy play area with slippery dip and swings.
T J Lindley Park – Is a large park-like area in Eagle St, South Gundagai. This park has no facilities.
Chandler Park – A small park area with views of the Murrumbidgee River on the south-west corner of Mount St and Tumut St, South Gundagai. It provides a bench style seat and minimum playground equipment.
SPORTING OVALS
Anzac Park – So named because included in the grounds is Gundagai’s Anzac Grove and War Memorial. Situated off Landon St, Anzac Park holds Gundagai’s main football oval. There are toilet facilities, however unless a sporting event is in progress they remain locked.
Stan Crowe and Owen Vincent Ovals – Landon St, next to Anzac Park. These two ovals are venues for school athletic carnivals, soccer, hockey, softball, cricket, touch football as well as other forms of sport or sporting events.
Heydon Park – Landon St, next to Yarri Park. Heydon Park is Gundagai’s hockey field.
Gundagai Showground & Racecourse Complex – Off Middleton Drive, at the end of O I Bell Drive. The showground and racecourse complex is located on Gundagai’s flatlands and is bordered to the east and south by the Murrumbidgee River. As well as having function rooms and entertaining facilities, this well equipped complex holds and caters for:
- Horse Racing
- Horse training facilities
- Annual Agriculture Show
- Dog trials
- Equestrian events throughout the year including camp drafts, rodeo, Giddyup, show jumping events, pony club. The complex has been utilized by major organizations and just recently held the NSW Short Course titles.
